ETO Reporting can often feel complex and overwhelming, so it is important to look for ways to streamline your organization’s reporting processes. The View Reports (New) feature is a recent release to help users access standard and custom reports in ETO a lot more quickly and easily. This post outlines five tips and best practices to maximise this new feature and make it useful for you, your supervisors, and your staff!
1. Move Custom Categories to the top of the list
Place an asterisk(*) as the first character of your category names. This moves all of your custom categories to the top of the category list and makes it easier for others to find the category.
By having all custom categories at the top of the list, they won’t mix with the standard report categories.
You can also use a hashtag(#) to mark a category for reports that only high level supervisors will use. This will keep lists clean and organized.
2. Disable unused Standard Report Categories
If you are not using some of the standard report categories, you can disable them in View Reports (New). Simply select Manage Categories and click disable on any Standard Category. Keep in mind that you can only disable, and not delete, standard report categories.
3. Add Descriptions
When placing a report in a category, you can add a description to help your staff understand what the report is all about. The target audience of descriptions in View Reports (New) is the end user. Report writers can also have descriptions that are helpful to them like version number or date updated, which can be outlined in ETO Results, and seen on the Results Reporting Dashboard. Using View Reports (New) lets you have descriptions for both target audiences.
4. Re-categorize Standard Reports
If you use an individual standard report often, you can edit the category and place it in an area that is more accessible to users.
5. Restrict and remove buttons along the top
Those with a specific security setting can only access the buttons for Manage Universes and Manage Categories in the Site Navigation. You can change or provide custom access with “Manage Site Navigation” under the Site Administration section of the right navigation bar.
